INOVASI PENGEMBANGAN MATERI AJAR PENDIDIKAN IPS DI SMP MELALUI PENDEKATAN TRADISI LISAN DAN SEJARAH LOKAL KABUPATEN LANGKAT

Abstract

This study aims to develop innovative social studies (IPS) learning approaches in junior high schools through the integration of oral traditions and local history from Langkat Regency. This approach holds significant potential to enhance students' understanding of learning materials relevant to cultural, historical, and social contexts. The research employs a library research method with a descriptive analytical approach, involving a series of activities such as collecting data from literature sources, conducting in-depth reading, taking essential notes, and processing data to support the analysis aligned with the research objectives. The findings indicate that oral traditions and local history have immense potential as alternative resources for developing social studies learning materials at the junior high school level. This conclusion is based on several key considerations: a) their alignment with the current curriculum; b) the rich values embedded within the content of oral traditions and local history; and c) their relevance to the challenges faced in school environments. Furthermore, three primary steps can be undertaken: 1) the analysis stage, which involves identifying relevant oral traditions and aligning them with the curriculum; 2) the design and development stage, where the format and structure of the learning materials are created to be engaging and beneficial for students; and 3) the implementation stage, which integrates the developed materials into the teaching and learning process in an interactive and meaningful way. These steps positively impact the learning model, knowledge acquisition, character building, and foster a deep appreciation for local culture in Langkat Regency.
