Abstract

This research is motivated by the Covid-19 pandemic situation which requires elementary school students to study from home. The habit of literacy activities that are usually carried out in schools is experiencing problems. This study aims to determine the literacy ability of elementary school students in the act of reading at home. This research is action research. The subject of this research is the fifth grade students of SDN 064034 Medanwhile the object of this research is the student's home environment, precisely the factors that affect literacy ability. Data collection techniques in this study are observation and documentation. The instrument used is an observation sheet. The results showed that the home environment of the students supported to improve the literacy skills of these students as evidenced by the reading activities that students do at home are also carried out every day. This is proven to show that in order to improve students' literacy skills, it is necessary to have repeated and disciplined learning so that if this is maintained and improved, students' thinking skills will be more critical and reading will become a necessity.
